Dark Chocolate

We are all guilty of craving and splurging on chocolate! So if you really need this delicious treat try to choose a dark chocolate that is rich in cocoa solids; 70% cocoa or more. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants however still contains some sugar and fats so limit yourself to a few squares.


Berries and Fruit

This is a bit of an obvious one but needs to be mentioned. Of course if you are having sugar cravings reach for fruit and berries as they are naturally sweetened. Fruit and berries are high in fibre and the perfect snack to satisfy your sweet tooth.



Smoothies are a great way to satisfy your sugar cravings. It’s all about the ingredients you choose to put into your smoothie that counts. Choose whole fruits, vegetables and berries rather than just the juice. Smoothies are almost like having a sweet dessert without the sugar and calories. If you really need to sweeten something stevia is your best choice. It is a sugar substitute with no calories and is derived from a plant. Just be careful to use stevia in reasonable quantities as just like anything, too much may be harmful.


Cinnamon is a sweet spice that you can use to sweeten and give flavour to your snacks. You’ll get that sweet kick and added health benefits as well! Cinnamon is packed full of antioxidants and can lower your blood pressure.


Dates come from the palm tree and are a dried fruit that's super sweet! Dates are full of fibre, potassium and iron and can be eaten plain, chucked into smoothies, paired with some peanut butter or crunchy nuts and seeds. When you’re eating your dates just make sure you're sticking to three or four at a time.

Sugar Free Gum

Chewing a stick of sugar free gum can be an effective way to reduce your sugar cravings. Sugar free gum tastes sweet with very little calories and as a bonus is good for your teeth.

Fermented Foods

All foods that are fermented have good bacteria, improve your bodies immune system and are good for your gut health. Fermented foods can help to reduce your appetite and sugar cravings, some good ones include yogurt (ensure the yogurt you choose is natural and not high in sugar), sauerkraut and Kombucha.
