With winter officially here staying motivated to keep active can be a challenge. Lucky for you I’ve put together the ultimate guide to keep up your fitness during the cold months!

Join a Gym

Let's start with the most obvious way to keep fit over the colder months. Going to the gym is a great way to continue exercising during winter without the frost biting your toes. Gyms are full of exercise machines and equipment. Many gyms also offer group fitness classes which are great to keep motivated as its a guided session. 

Winter Fitness Alternatives

Let winter be a time to try out some alternative ways to stay active. Perhaps some activities you would not usually consider in summer. It’s always good to change up the way you are exercising so you don’t lose interest and motivation.

Try out:

  • Ice skating
  • Swimming in an indoor heated pool
  • Hot yoga
  • Join an indoor sports team (football, netball, basketball)

Even better, embrace the cold and make the most of the snow by heading to the mountains to ski or snowboard!

Cleaning and Chores

Don’t be too quick to skip past this one! Cleaning and chores are a fact of life and can’t be avoided. Why not make them more fun by cranking up the music and looking at cleaning in a different way; as exercise! Choosing more strenuous chores, such as scrubbing and vacuuming as well as throwing in a few squats and lunges when the song changes is the perfect way to add some cardio into your day.   

Easy Living Room Exercises

Here is a list of simple exercises that can be done in your living room with no equipment. There are many variations on these exercises also if you want to change it up.

  1. Star jumps
  2. Jump rope
  3. Squats
  4. Mountain climbers
  5. Butt kicks
  6. Crunches
  7. Push ups
  8. Body planks
  9. Lunges
  10. Burpees
  11. High knees
  12. Wall sit

To turn these exercises into a quick and easy fat burner:

  • Choose 5 exercises from this list
  • Do each exercise for 20 seconds
  • Rest for 10 seconds between each exercise
  • Repeat 3 times

Protein Hot Chocolate

Change up your regular protein shake for a protein hot chocolate during the winter!

All you need is:

  • 1 cup of almond milk (soy or cow's milk is also fine)
